June Lockhart, born June 25, 1925 she is an American actress. She was a major television star during the 1950s and 1960s as well as performing on stage and in movies. She was the mother character on two TV series: Lassie and Lost in Space. She also portrayed Dr. Janet Craig on the CBS television sitcom Petticoat Junction (1968-70). She was a Tony Award and Emmy Award nominee twice. Her career spans over 80 years and she is among Hollywood's last remaining actors. She is the daughter Canadian-American actor Gene Lockhart, whose Broadway debut was in Ah, Wilderness! in 1933. Kathleen Lockhart, an English-born actress (nee Arthur), is her father. Her grandfather, John Coates Lockhart (a singer in the concert industry), was her father. Lockhart's film debut was in 1938, along with her parents in A Christmas Carol. [4] She was also as a supporting role in Meet Me in St. Louis and Sergeant York, All This and Heaven Too and The Yearling. She-Wolf of London (1946) was her principal role.
