Serena Williams was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 26th 1981. She is an American tennis player. Williams grew up near Compton, California. The family was comprised of her parents, Oracene Price, a nurse, as well as Richard Williams, who founded a security service--and Venus Williams, her older sister. Price had three children from her previous marriage. Although both parents pushed Serena and Venus Williams to play tennis, it was Richard Williams who largely taught them the sport, taking two of the girls to courts of the public court in the area. His reputation for being a disciplined coach was widely known, and the sisters would practice for hours. In 1991 the family moved to Florida in order that Serena and Venus Williams could attend a tennis academy.
