Sofia Margarita Vergara Vergara Vergara was raised in Barranquilla (Colombia). Margarita Vergara davila, also known as Vergara is her mother, and she is a housewife. Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo is her father. He provides cattle for the industry of meat. She is the youngest of five siblings. She went to a bilingual private school in Spanish/English. After graduating from high school, she went on to pursue predentistry. Sofia was discovered by a photographer while she was on the beach. This led to a variety of opportunities in modeling and television. She became runway models at the age of 23. Between 1995 and 1998, she was co-hosting an international travel show, Fuera de serie (1995) that brought her to the forefront in the United States. Her first film appearance was in the crime-comedy Big Trouble (2002). Gloria DelgadoPritchett was her breakout part on American television's Modern Family (2009). In 2010-2013, she received four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for this role. Sofia resides in Los Angeles, California with her son Manolo.
