Natalie Wood was an American actress who was of Russian and Ukrainian descent. She began her career as a child actor and eventually transitioned into roles for teens as well as young adult roles and roles for middle-aged actors. She drowned off Catalina Island on November 29 1981 at the age of 43.Wood was born on the 20th of July, 1938 in San Francisco to Russian immigrant parents household worker Maria Gurdin (nee Zudilova) who was known as a variety of names, including Mary, Marie and Musia as well as her the second husband Nick Gurdin (nee Zacharenko) who was a janitor as well as prop builder. Nicholas, the son of a chocolatier was born in Primorsky Krai. Maria was the daughter of an affluent industrialist in Barnaul, Siberia. Natalie's maternal grandfather was a soap and candle factory owner. Wood's parents were forced out of Russia due to the Russian Civil War. Her father was a member of the civilian resistance to Bolsheviks during the war. He was killed in a street fight that erupted between Red and White Russian soldiers.
