Tim Tebow

Regarded by many as the most outstanding player in the college football history, Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines to Baptist missionaries. Before becoming pregnant with him, his mother had contracted amoebic dysentery. While she was pregnant, the medications used to treat the dysentery caused an abruption of the placenta, which is a condition where the placental lining splits away from the uterus. Because abortion is against their religious beliefs, the couple decided to continue to carry their baby until the time it reached the age of. Tim and his mother were featured in a pro-life advertisement sponsored by the evangelical group Focus on the Family during Super Bowl XLIV (2010) that sparked national controversy. The family returned to the United States when Tim was 3 years old, moving to a farm in Jacksonville, FL, where he and his siblings were educated at home by their mom. In order to take advantage of a state law which allowed students from home schools to compete in high school sports in 2003, Tim as well as his mom relocated to Ponte Vedra so he would be able to play football at Allen D. Nease High School. He was awarded Player of the Year in junior (playing the final game of that season due to a fractured fibula) and also Mr. Football his senior year after he lead Nease to the Class 4A championship. After three days of Nease had taken home the state title, Tebow declared that he would play for his old school, the University of Florida, on December 13, 2005.
