Her high school buddy who had enlisted for military service following the September 11th attacksin 2001, inspired her to pursue a career in journalism. She says, "I didn’t want him to be a part of war and fighting in one." "I started to question what was actually going on. She was a sophomore at San Diego State University when she started to inquire about the "selling" by the media during the Iraq War.
