Ruth Roman

 Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman born on December 22, 1922 – September 9, 1999 was an American actress. She started her career in the east coast of America as a stage performer and then moved to Hollywood to pursue a career with films. She appeared in several part parts that were not acknowledged until she was chosen as the lead actress in the western Harmony Trail (1944) and in the title role in the film serial Jungle Queen (1945), her first credited film performances.Roman initially starred in the role of Belle Starr's Daughter (1948).She had her first major success with a role in The Window (1949) and a year later was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year and the category of Actress for her performance on Champion (1949). She was under contract to Warner Bros. in the 1950s. In the 1950s, she appeared in several films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman began appearing in guest roles on television series in the mid-1950s. Roman also directed films in Spain, Italy, and England. She was also a guest on the SS Andrea Doria when it struck another vessel and then sank in the year 1956. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her part in the play Two for the Seesaw. She was a television star who earned a place on Hollywood's Walk of Fame for her many TV appearances.Norma Roman was born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (nee Gold), and Abraham "Anthony” Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. A fortune teller told her mother that "Norma was not lucky," she was changed to Ruth. Her mother was a dancer and her father a barker in a carnival sideshow that they operated in Revere Beach, Massachusetts. She had two older sisters: Ann and Eve.
