Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman born on December 22nd, 1922 - September 9th, 1999 was an American actress. She began her career in the east coast of America as a stage actress and then moved to Hollywood to make a name for herself in films. She was in a variety of small roles that were not credited, before she was selected as the leading lady in the western Harmony Trail (1944) and as the title character in the film serial Jungle Queen (1945), her first film credit performances.Roman initially starred in the title role in Belle Starr's Daughter (1948).She achieved her first notable success in the role of The Window (1949) and the following year was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year and the category of Actress for her performance in Champion (1949). In the early 1950s she was signed to Warner Bros., where she appeared in a range of films that included the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951).In the mid-1950s, following her departure from Warner Bros., Roman continued to be a film star and began appearing in the roles of guest stars in TV series. Roman also created films in Spain, Italy, and England. In 1956, she was also an onboard passenger of the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel and sank. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her role in the show Two for the Seesaw. The numerous appearances on television have earned her a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. A fortune teller told her mother that "Norma was unlucky," she was renamed Ruth. Her mother was a professional dancer and her father worked as a barker at a carnival sideshow they owned in Revere Beach. Ann and Eve were her sisters older than her.
